White House chief of staff says Trump won't extend the weekly unemployment boost because it 'paid people to stay home'

White House chief of staff Mark Meadows said the White House didn't want to extend the $600 weekly unemployment boost because it "paid people to stay home."White House chief of staff Mark Meadows said Sunday the president was not interested in extending the $600 weekly boost to federal unemployment benefits as they're set to expire on July 31.

The $600 weekly boost was passed in March as part of the CARES Act in order to supplement the gap between a worker's lost wage and state unemployment benefits, which cover just a portion of a person's previous earnings. "The original unemployment benefits actually paid people to stay home, and actually a lot of people got more money staying at home than they would go back to work,"

Paid to stay home? You mean like the heirs of some of the wealthiest people?

funny you guys have been ripping us off for years and when its time to give back and help people in need you act like pricks

Okay people, you know what to do:

Vile POS

this is how you actively lose an election, during a pandemic, with close to 40 million unemployed!!! Appreciate that, Biden needs all the help he can get!!!

The unemployment boost is paying for rent/utilities, and keeping millions from becoming homeless, but Trump thinks struggling Americans are enjoying a vacation.

EmBeesWeb Totally nonsense

DKolic17 These people are evil. Evil, stupid, venal, and cruel.

It gave people urgent assistance and the Trump administration isn’t killing any economic movement we might have had.

Good.

This completely disregards the fact that many of these people have no jobs to go back too.

Lol benefit boys not gonna like this.

These mopes are SO out of touch with America!!

We need to find a better way to aid in unemployment and it should be looked at more on a state-by-state basis as % of eligible earnings for UI and tethered to more effort than simply filing and not seeking any employment. Require them to be contract tracers or something of value

The food riots are gonna be fun. How many oligarchs will make it to their Citadels of Montmédy?

Because that’s what Fox News told him.

Unemployment $$ didn't pay people TO STAY home, it assisted people who were REQUIRED to stay home because of Covid policies, not of their own free will.

It's paying people to stay home because it's too dangerous to go to work with the virus spiking out of control. The US is still in a state of shut down. The benefit should stay in effect until the virus infection/hospitalization curve is crushed.

Yeah and then?

Idiots.

Not until Wall Street starts dropping because people starting getting evicted and no one can buy anything
