Proprietary directors are being reinstated to the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS) from 1 September, where they retain 'ordinary' employees on payroll.

Proprietary directors, or business owners, are being reinstated to the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme from 1 September, where they retain "ordinary" employees on payroll.

Business owners had expressed anger over the decision to exclude company directors from the new Covid wage subsidy scheme.Speaking today, Mr Donohoe said: "Over the past 48 hours I have listened to the concerns of certain proprietary directors in relation to provisions of the EWSS. He said the EWSS is an economy wide support for employers and a "key element of the Government's July Jobs Stimulus, the focus of which is on measures that immediately and directly support the economy and help to actively retain and create jobs".

The new scheme will run concurrently with the existing Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme until 31 August at which stage the TWSS will cease. Chief executive of the Restaurants Association of Ireland, Adrian Cummins said around 20,000-30,000 businesses would have been affected across the country.
