The city council of a small town in Georgia has voted to remove a slave market dating from the the late 1700’s standing in the middle of its downtown area, but it’s still unclear to where and what will be done with the structure—as well as if there are any restrictions on removal on the state or federal level.KEY FACTS
The Market House in Louisville, Georgia, is an open-air, covered pavilion believed by experts to have been built in the early days of Louisville’s founding in the 1790s.at the Market House throughout the years, along with land and household goods. This week, Louisville City Council voted to remove the structure from downtown, but the city attorney warned they still need to find out if the state or federal government could impede on their decision, and where exactly the structure will go needs to be finalized.
While most of the 70 letters an advisory committee received were in favor of removing the Market House, some community members at the meeting were against the idea, with one man saying “you’re coming up here saying it’s a slave market and it’s not,” adding that the structure is just “

Erasing history doesn’t change it. Knee-jerk actions like this just make it harder for future generations to learn from it.

Oh, and that makes the history of slavery there just go away. Foolishness! If they want to remove it, then dismantle it and reassemble it in a historic park or on some museum grounds somewhere.
It should stand, every school should bring students there and describe exactly what happened there. We will never move forward until we teach our true history
It should be kept as a memorial to the souls bought and sold on its steps. It should be like the death camps in Germany.. a constant reminder of where America was and where we want to go.
History should not be erased or modified. They could as well give a nice answer to it and turn that into a cultural center for African-american culture or a reminder of the horrors of slavery, such as in the concentration camps.
