I used to hide the fact that I was a mom at work. This is why I'll never go back

But considering motherhood to be an impediment to a professional career only feeds into a false idea that women can't have both. Like most working mothers, I subconsciously tried to minimize the perceived presence of a small person in my life. Then, it all went out the window in mid-March of 2020 when my son's elementary school closed because of the pandemic.

I spent some time gaslighting myself into thinking that it should not be this stressful. I mean, I have one typical kid, how bad can it be? Yet, somehow it was pretty bad. Splitting up my time between a social and active child and a demanding job was draining. I was used to being just a full-time worker for at least eight hours per day. Suddenly, I was a full-time worker, a full-time parent, and a part-time teacher.
