I run a coaching business that has over 213,000 newsletter subscribers. Here's the LinkedIn message and strategy that helped me grow my email list when I was starting out

Susie Moore is a life coach and advice columnist who helps entrepreneurs get hired by leveraging the media. Sign up for her free workshop on how to get publicity for your businessMoore has gained over 213,000 email subscriptions since starting her side hustle as a life coach in 2013, thanks to her diligently reaching out to her contacts on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter using a specific template.

An email list matters if you want to grow and sustain your own business, be it selling a live service like coaching, online products like courses, or even a physical product like clothing or stationery. At your fingertips you have a group of people who you can instantly reach through their precious inbox — something that they always, always check.

I had more than 3,000 connections on LinkedIn when I got started. I had grown these over my career in tech at the time, and as a result, my email list grew to about 700 people within weeks after I sent out that initial message. I also shared some of my own content on LinkedIn. This was a really subtle way of letting people know about the work I was doing — and by reading my content, they got to know my coaching style.
