According to The Times, federal authorities are looking into a 16-year-old in Massachusetts who sources claimed may have played a key, if not leading role in the hack, though he has not yet been charged.was arrested by state authorities and charged with 30 felony counts in connection with the heist, while two other alleged accomplices were charged by the US Department of Justice.
The July hack compromised the accounts of VIP users including Barack Obama, Jeff Bezos, and Kanye West, which hackers used to access private messages and account data as well as post tweets soliciting scam Bitcoin donations.
The Times also reported that the teen has not yet been charged with any crime and that the court documents have not been made public, but an FBI spokesperson told the newspaper that agents served the teen with a warrant and raided the house in Massachusetts where he lives with his parents.
