"People learn is many different ways," says Porter. "There are so many resources, there are some great books as well. From your standard traditional textbooks, manuals, to ways that gamify learning and use NLP [natural language processing] methods to help make learning fun."
She adds: "We have a girls code group that helps women of all ages, right from girls of 12 to women in their 60s, and possibly older, to get into coding." Fortunately, doing an online course or taking part in a bootcamp such as Founders and Coders will provide you with a ready-made portfolio that you can use, says Porter.
"I decided that I wanted to start the new year with a job," says Porter. "I was like I don't know when I'll be ready, but I feel like I could bring something to the table to the right job."
