A school bus operator in Ottawa says it has fired a driver who drove the 40-kilometre trek back to the depot without realizing there was still a child on the bus

The student was supposed to be dropped off at École élementaire Francojeunesse in Sandy Hill on Friday morning. Instead, the child remained on the bus as the driver took it all the way back to Clarence-Rockland. “At that time, the bus was just pulling back into our yard at our Rockland location, at which point one of our office members went out, met the driver, and we found the child siting mid to part-way back of the bus,” said Roxborough Bus Lines President Nick McRae.

Not necessary.

Tell that driver to come to Sudbury. We parents just found out today that 23 routes have no bus driver for tomo the first day of school😳

He gets fired for not noticing a kid? He'd have been fired if he spent the trip ogling the child. Just can't win sometimes.

Well maybe the dum kid should have said something? Or gotten off the bus at school? The kid obviously didn't want to go to school cuz it's terrible, so I blame the school, not the driver, give that man back his job!

I was woken from a nap around five pm in the school bus which was parked at the driver’s home in 1976. I was fine and well rested. No harm done. That said, I do think a bus check is a necessity because anything could happen.

Did justin get home safely?

A little harsh

oh well. the child is safe.

It is the responsibility of the school bus driver to check to make sure all students are off the bus by walking to the bank row, or it was back when I was a child. Had this happened on a cold winter day or hot summer day, this child may have suffered.

2020, year of the rat...

Seems extreme for one mistake. How many parents have driven somewhere and forgotten their kid? He didn’t drop the bus at the yard and also fail to check there. The kid was fine. If this was first mistake, I feel like firing was too much.

What about a school monitor going into the bus to do a seat check as a fail safe ?

4UWell Isn't that their only job?

It happens. My first grader fell asleep and was discovered at the bus barn at the end of the route. Mind you, this was before cell phones and there was no way to contact the driver.

is the child safe? was it a mistake? then lighten up for God's sake; ghezz. let he who is without sin throw the first stone!

'You had one job!' comes to mind.

Ever notice it’s always the lowest paid person in a company who loses the job and the company walks scott free

Why does a bus picking up kids in lowertown doesn't park closer in Orleans instead going back to Clarence-Creek?

Jeez, holler kid. Lol
