McDonald's is creating a new team focused on creating "positive change," as the fast-food giant faces a slew of controversies.
The Global Impact Team will work across the organization — including the government relations, communications, and sustainability teams — and oversee the company's corporate philanthropy and environmental, social, and corporate governance efforts. Kempczinski immediately emphasized values as a focus of his strategy leading the company, through town halls and the rolling out "refreshed" values.
While Easterbrook was CEO, the HR department was lead by David Fairhurst, who was fired in November 2019. While McDonald's did not announce that Fairhurst had been fired at the time, Heidi Capozzi — McDonald's new head of HR — said in a recent internal meeting he was fired "with cause" after making women at the company uncomfortable. that Fairhurst was known for drinking with other employees, including female subordinates.
