The airline industry says jobs are being held hostage while House and Senate leaders bicker over the terms of a new aid package., a dozen industry trade groups and unions said they all agree that a stand-alone deal is necessary and urged the majority and minority leaders of both legislative bodies to reconcile their differences as soon as possible.
"There continues to be strong, broad, and bipartisan willingness to protect jobs and livelihoods in the airline industry by extending the successful Payroll Support Program , which was part of the CARES Act," read the letter, which was signed by Airlines for America, which represents the carriers, and unions representing pilots, flight attendants and other front-line workers.
Time is running out: The House adjourned last week without passing a comprehensive new stimulus bill, and the"Both the Senate and the House have introduced bills that would protect airline jobs and air service through an extension of the PSP. Airlines have been hoping to bribe the government into giving them more money and throwing the working class under the bus to get it. Where are the billions they made in all those absurd fees all these years? Didn't they save anything for a rain day, like we're always told?
The airline I worked for got MILLIONS from the last stimulus package. Some of us were laid off the day after the date by which they could let go of us ...and STILL keep the $$.
Airline executives shud have put some money away for a rainy day! They were given billions of $ in tax reductions. Instead of strengthening capitalization; did stock buy-backs from Trump’s give away tax cuts to the 1%. Relief $ need to go directly to individuals and small biz.
