Tech is coming to eat the $200 billion management-consulting industry's lunch. Here's a look at 4 factors disrupting how elite firms like BCG and McKinsey do business.

When it comes to information, expertise, insight and execution, technology is threatening to disrupt consulting firms' ability to offer services to clients at a high price tag.Management consulting firms like McKinsey and BCG have long been successful in the business world due to their expertise and prestige.

Thanks to market-research firms and online databases, companies can now gather information themselves BCG also has a program called BCG Gamma, where data scientists work together with consultants to problem-solve. The report said it was still unclear whether the rise in expert networks poses a threat to consulting firms, but that with third-party companies offering up experts to solve smaller problems, fewer and fewer problems will actually need the work of an entire consulting firm. Consulting firms rose to prominence because they offered exclusive management strategies.
