Tech employees fleeing the Bay Area to work remotely are facing a new reality: pay cuts

Tech workers fleeing the San Francisco Bay Area to work remotely amid the pandemic are facing a new reality: pay cuts.

Over the past several months, Covid-19 has shaken traditional notions of where employees can work. In Silicon Valley, which has a relatively high cost of living and an employee base with access to state-of-the-art remote-work tools, companies are devising plans for a future with decentralized staffs. In some cases, changes can include cutting salaries by 15% or more depending on where someone moves.

Even with slightly reduced salaries, the diaspora of overpaid Silicon Valley tech workers will ruin the quality of life for communities where they congregate; just as they have ruined San Francisco.

And when AI automates much of Middle-American jobs the next reality we will face will not be more pay cuts... but job cuts altogether.

Pay cuts stink but they are reducing salaries by the premium for the Bay Area. They will still end up with more purchase power.

Quit those cheap selfish hightech employers and let them hire H1Bs 😆

Pay is based on job responsibilities not where u live. Time for a law to pass!!

WARNING If you can work from home, why not from another country? PAY CUTS or JOB CUTS?

So the same employees that you paid well, but still couldn't afford to buy a house in the Bay Area now get to move to another area where they won't be able to buy a house? Nicely done!

Why would the flee the Bay Area? 🤷‍♂️

The oligarchy at it again god forbid you distribute ownership to those supporting your oligarchy

Now you are paying for the space you work in instead of your employer AND they want you to take a pay cut for it.

This is stupid! Those workers will spend their money in those communities adding income taxe revenue to smaller cities. Equal pay for equal work!

so if you move to other state they want to pay you less money. but when they sell an iphone for example, they do not give you the same discount

Let them go back to India where the cost of living is much cheaper. They could be closer to family too. Really, no sarcasm here.

If you move to allow income tax state, the paycut would be an net increase in pay

Not sharing with the people who make you wealthy,,,non socialist when it comes to money 💰

Well, I think that this might be very much an unreasonable response by profiteering tech companies. In general, tech companies have been doing well. Sad. Vote for Biden/Harris. Mask up and care for all. =
