Hospitals around the US are panic buying hyper-cold freezers in anticipation of Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine

to maintain its efficacy. The temperature is well below the average 36 degrees required for most vaccines, and far colder than a regular freezer temperature of 0 degrees.

Makers of these specialty freezers are anticipating months-long backorders and delays for the products — which retail at anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000 — due to unprecedented demand,The wave of purchases comes even as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention instructed hospitals in August not to purchase the freezers, instead insisting it was working on its own storage solutions for the vaccine rollout.
