Comcast faces backlash over plan to charge customers up to $100 for going over a home-internet data limit rolling out to 14 new states

Roberto Machado Noa/LightRocket via Getty ImagesIn 14 states and the District of Columbia, customers with Xfinity internet plans that aren't unlimited will be constrained to 1.2 TB of data per month, or face overage charges. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more storiesComcast is adding a data cap for some of its home-internet plans starting in January. The telecommunications giant recently confirmed it's introducing a limit of 1.

If customers that don't have unlimited plans go over that cap, they must pay $10 for each additional 50 GB of data. The extra charges max out at $100. Although the plan changes start in January, Comcast said that customers won't face extra charges for January and February. Instead, they'll get a "credit" for those two months, and one more free pass for another month over the course of the rest of the year.

What's dumb is this Cap already exists in Illinois and the leading competition is AT&T and they have shitty speeds compared to Comcast/Xfinity. You more or less has to deal with the cap if you want faster speeds or you can get the 'unlimited' add-on for extra $ a month. 🙄

'Owners' of Sky News which means their subscription charges will soon be increasing rather than slashing their 'competition' costs ..............

That company is absolute trash, switching to Verizon FiOS was one of the best things I ever did for my sanity.

I worked for comcast and this is literally how they’re dealing with losing customers everyday due to streaming services. Not many people want cable anymore. That data cap is a money maker for them.

Ha! comcast started calling me this year about my final bill from 2-0-1-7!! When I moved out of state I paid in FULL & returned ALL equipment. No I don’t have the receipt anymore from back then. But I know I’m not giving you any more money! Not good, not good.

That practice needs to be handed. Data limits make no sense for Comcast to have. None

Data caps are the worst and comcast is the worst. I wish I had a viable alternative in my area.

good

Streaming is killing their cable TV business so they're striking back.
