Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says Australia should try harder to attain a trade relationship with India however “small steps” should be taken to better the relationship initially. It comes amid worsening trade tensions between Canberra and Beijing which have seen the communist nation place bans on Australian exports and implement substantial tariffs on Australian products.

“When it's wet here in Australia it’s often dry in India thanks to the Indian Ocean’s dipole effect so it would make sense for Australia and India to have a much closer relationship with agricultural products,” he told Sky News. Mr Canavan also said Australia needed to “diversify away from China” and China’s recent “unreasonable demands” should be a lesson to businesses. “This last year has been a lesson to Australian businesses … there’s a risk doing business with a communist country.

mattjcan Wrong, there is already too much farming being done in Australia, they need to reduce the amount they produce which will help balance out the weather patterns and make the countries veins flow again.

mattjcan Risk is trade dependent on a single country , Aust should diversify and trade with many other countries.

mattjcan

mattjcan Australia should never do trades with a Communist Regime, Biggest Mistake Ever!

mattjcan Can we sell a lot to both India and China? Don't we have politicians to negotiate the best for us?

mattjcan Hell no it will be another source of cheap crappy stuff let alone more Indian call centres.

mattjcan Why do aussies think of AU as ‘the world’? The West, EU specifically is about to sign a trade deal with China today. This means even the West has picked China over Australia. And I’m pretty sure the rest of the world wouldn’t side with AU. Just stop being salty and move on.

mattjcan Communism is a force in India, predominantly in the state of Kerala. The party has a million members. I'm not aware of any difficulties that Australia exporters have with Vietnam but Canavan is encouraging issues with his authentic frontier gibberish.

mattjcan I’ll take a curry muncher over an everything eater any day

mattjcan Or we could demand they remove they caste system of oppression

mattjcan Then India will screw us as well, then join forces with China.

mattjcan Always have been risks, I don’t know why the world chose to take those risks and financially support a communist dictatorship.
