After Trump's Twitter ban, critics want other populists like Brazil's Jair Bolsonaro and India's Narendra Modi booted from social media

However, politicians from the ruling BJP PartyShashi Tharoor, a politician with the rival Congress party, tweeted on January 9: "For those crying foul on asuspension: curbing the freedom of expression of those who incite violence & other anti-democratic behaviour is needed here too.

"Those who try to curb the rights & liberties of people they're elected to lead shouldn't be given an enabling platform." The Observer also quoted an academic, the University of Arkansas School of Law's Khaled A Beydoun, who said booting Modi from Twitter would be the "logical next move." Not all moderate politicians are so gung-ho. Several European figures, including German chancellor Angela Merkel, suggested tech firms should not be regulating political leaders.: "The fundamental right [of freedom of expression] can be interfered with, but along the lines of the law and within the framework defined by the lawmakers.Your morning cheat sheet to get you caught up on what you need to know in tech. The Brazilian Ministry of Health had this tweet flagged for publishing 'misleading and potentially harmful information related to COVID-19'. Ministry of Health of Brazil under Bolsonaro.

I bet all the critics have pronouns in their bios.

Mentira, não queremos!.. Imprensa nojenta.

Modi is popular, not a populist. A right winger popular person doesn't make a populist.

What about every dictator in the world ?

Modi widely popular and twice elected leader of India, steering the country from ills of the past.Vested interests shaken. And on way to be elected again. So,please.

No, we are a country of free speech and when you ban one side you can at some point ban the other side. But you can label lies with facts and ban them if they threaten lives, but the rules need to be clear and all social media should unify and abide by them.

Ah yes, so they could all found their own populist social media in which it would become an even greater echo chamber of ideas!

That would be end of these social media giants in the largest market of the world. You need to remember that Indians are apprehensive of foreign interference in Indian issues, given the colonial past. These social media giants are rather aware of the consequences.

Humanity won’t make it another century

Ban of Mr Narendra Modi? That would be the BIGGEST crime Twitter would commit & would prove to be the end of its existence. PM Modi is India's pride, an elected leader of world's LARGEST DEMOCRACY. Go ahead & try.😒😒😒

Claiming to be anti fascist while acting fascist

No worries cuz they are not threatening to USA

Good idea!

Censorship is a slippery slope
