All night markets in Covid-19 red zones on mainland Penang are not allowed to operate.

The Seberang Prai City Council mayor said the decision was made on the advice of the Health Ministry to reduce the spread of Covid-19 infections.“All traders are advised to obey the instructions.

“If the traders and public have any problems or need further information, they can call the Licensing Department help desk , ” he said in a statement.On the island, a Penang Island City Council spokesman said night markets there would operate as permitted and based on the decisions made by National Security Council.“If an enhanced movement control order is implemented in any area, then night markets there will be closed.

“Any night market, regardless of its zone, that does not comply with the SOPs will be ordered to close, ” he said.Currently, only eight night markets will operate as usual while the rest have voluntarily closed for the time being.
