'These days, my partner and I look into each other’s eyes and say lovingly: 'I am so very bored of you. I miss my friends.' ' Nicole Rodgers writes that no pandemic loss has been greater for her than the company of other women. WBUR

COVID-19 has turned daily life into drudgery. The days are somehow both busy and boring. Time with girlfriends used to be the salve, but nurturing those relationships virtually now requires a level of intentionality that is easily thwarted by the new demands of pandemic life which keep piling up,I’ve never been very good at staying in regular contact with long-distance friends, but in the before-times, the consequences were minimal.

There is so much I’ve grieved these past 11 months, but perhaps most acutely I miss the company of women.

OMGchronicles WBUR lisabonos Someone already stole your thunder...?

nsrodgers WBUR My family sustains me but my ladies nourish me No matter how long( +40) or shorter (10-15) but they are all my 'sisters of my heart' Through all of life's events & passages we know we will hold each other up We speak a shorthand like 'No jury of my peers' means Hubby-Trouble

nsrodgers WBUR I loved this article. This being my first year with out my husband - he died at 51 of brain cancer - I became so much closer with my friends. I can’t wait for the day to come where we’re laughing & sharing a charcuterie board and drinks again.

nsrodgers WBUR Loved this read!! Sent it to all my girls because it’s so true!! Where would we be with our besties!? 💞

WBUR We aren’t made to have all of our social or emotional needs met by one person. It’s not healthy and really limiting. You can love and enjoy your partner’s company and miss your friends desperately at the same time.

WBUR So true 🤗

WBUR My hubby and I are happy as clams. Sure we miss our constant travel to see family and friends, and hopefully, we'll get back to doing that. But, in the meantime, we are delighted just to have each other.

WBUR Hhmmnn, uh, yeah that’s a pretty awful thing to say to your partner.

WBUR Why does this have to be gendered? It’s more about people missing those who they share special connections with.

WBUR I honestly don't get this. Virtually ALL my socializing with friends is outdoors - rowing, walking, biking. I live in a cold climate and I'm in my 70s. So are they. What's the problem here?

WBUR Girlfriends? Nah. I interact with many women in normal times, and I miss that in theory, but the pandemic protected me from what would’ve been dangerous interactions during a very trumpy year. One lives carefully in a red state. Pandemic showed who my real friends were. Via zoom.

WBUR You can somewhat solve this by having a woman for a partner ❤️

WBUR I miss my friends (in person). I miss my family and the hugs from my nieces and nephews. I miss not having that anxiety about being a vector and passing a potentially fatal illness to other people.

WBUR So accurate. As much as I love Mean Girls, that ubiquitous 'women are women's own, worst enemies' narrative is not in my book. Kudos to the author. Reading this felt like dipping in warm water.

WBUR So true. Luckily, my husband and I co-habitate 24/7 exceptionally well. But I miss my girls!!

WBUR There is nobody I would rather be cloistered away with than my wife. She IS my best friend and if you can say you are bored with your significant other then you have bigger problems to address than just missing hanging out with your friends.

WBUR How 2021 of her.

WBUR Even pre-pandemic I regularly went 3-4 weeks without seeing or talking to anyone because I don’t have any friends. Get over it and stop complaining. 🙄At least you have someone to text.

WBUR Thank God I'm married to a woman.

WBUR Can’t wait to talk to my girlfriends about all this!

WBUR just be a lesbian 🙄

WBUR I work almost exclusively with women... I miss their company, in all the little ways, every day!

WBUR Don't be a total Karen, then. See you friends.

WBUR In Mandalay: The military and police forces used these weapons to disperse the protesters and even shoot to the journalists. WhatsHappeningInMyanmar

WBUR This couldn’t be more accurate

WBUR Let me help. Those of us who survive trauma are forever recovering victims. But we choose to be survivors instead of victims. To be able to make that choice we need to heal. To heal, we need love. And that love begins with loving oneself & others.
