Sky News host Peter Gleeson says the cut-price plane fares the federal government has committed to are being undercut by concerns around border closures, particularly in Queensland.

As part of the federal government’s $1.2 billion stimulus package 800,000 discounted airline tickets will be made available to Australians in a bid to restore the tourism, travel and aviation industries. “The Palaszczuk government has singlehandedly handed the tourism industry a terrible, terrible, set of cards because of the uncertainty around border closures,” Mr Gleeson told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

He said it was “hypocrisy” for the Queensland government to want the federal government to “pick up the tabs for Brisbanites” who wish to head to Cairns without giving the tourism industry certainty. “The time has come for state and territory leaders in this country to give the tourism industry some certainty, they need certainty they don’t need more lockdown and they certainly don’t need more border closures.

The world comes to holiday in Queensland, not Kings Cross. Ever heard of The Great Barrier Brothel before? Didn't think so.

RealMarkLatham RitaPanahi the other risk for out of state travellers once they arrive in QLD is the Premier's stated policy that 'Queensland Hospitals are for Queenslanders'. So if my Family has an accident in Queensland she expects us to bleed out.

It’s a great program by the government which will help people spend more money at their tourist destinations - more money saved on airplane tickets means more money spent at destinations. Great for tourism operators, but states MUST offer certainty for borders staying open!!!

It’s about time to make a sweetheart exemption for couples who are in a long term exclusive dating relationship. Please have a heart. We wanted to get married too and have a family. LoveIsNotTourism GladysB Qantas

Guarantee a roll out of the vaccine. Pretty simple

Meanwhile those that can afford it are given government subsidised holidays. Those that can't now have less money courtesy of the government. Plus there is the obvious case of corporate welfare airline industry.

Peter 'LNP' Gleeson 😂 Keen to get those 'ALP bad' stories out. They always seem to miss the ones that actually affect us inserting hypotheticals that... didn't happen. Another Morrison/Hunt announcement bites the dust. Gleeson says? NOTHING 0⃣

The tourism industry needs to be null and void until basics are taken care of like housing and freezing the homeless and hungry. Close the gap between haves and have not.

It's a billion dollar handout of taxpayers money straight to Qantas and everyone knows it.
