Blackpool tourism industry 'will take five years to recover' from Covid

Blackpool Council warned it would be "tougher to sustain" tourism past the summer months

It could take up to five years for Blackpool's tourism industry to fully recover from the impact of Covid-19, tourism bosses believe. The resort's head of tourism Philip Welsh said private sector partners had "taken a hit" during the pandemic. He told a meeting that Blackpool was preparing for an "influx of visitors" this year as restrictions lift. The resort's "first challenge" is to cope with a rise in people heading for the beach over the next few months, Mr Welsh told a meeting of the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Economic Prosperity Board.

A great beach I had been in 1986

Never be the same since Alan Bradley got hit by that tram.

Shouldn’t this headline read “Covid to take 5 years to recover from Blackpool”? 🤣

Never moved with the times

and there's that word ''could''. which means you really have no idea what is going to happen but it makes for a good headline.

Could * might* should * Give it a rest. DefundTheBBC

Recover to what?

It was a dump just before the Pandemic, hopefully they will have enough time to drag it back out the sewer by the time everything opens.

I mean..... This has surely been an area of decline for many years. Stag and Hen vomfest

Love Blackpool many happy times when I was younger probably needs money pumped into it do up make it a place to go for a holiday again

Blackpool tourism has been failing for a while now. they destroyed the family holiday side in favour of hen and stag nights, then a failed attempt at a British Las Vegas. Now nobody knows what Blackpool is supposed to be. its a shell of its former glory.

Surely it won’t take that long to get back to ripping people off again

Re-brand as Majorca and see the money flowing in Could work, people hardly can remember the original anymore. They need an airport though, to make it fly

Fantastic what Blackpool did with the promenade you can cycle or walk from lytham all the way to fleetwood, But the frontage at the centre is shocking, They should paint all hotels and b&bs a different colour just like Miami then it would recover quicker!!! Just a thought!

A proper brexit town. Will be going there with my Union flag towel joenottoofussed

5 years to go from totally shit to just really shit?

Tourism industry suffured all over. Billions lost. So some governments will help, injecting $$$$ but the recovery will take a long time indeed. We still can't fly away to our favorite destinations.

Stop saying 'from covid' and start saying 'from lockdowns'

I think they're 30 or so years to late ...

Who in the right mind wants to be a tourist in Blackpool

Blackpool's been trying to 'recover' for the past 40 years already. No sign yet.

As will everywhere else...

In the end let's Love lead. In the end we all gona die. Enjoy to ease your mood.
