Another wet market in Penang has become a victim of Covid-19.

The latest is the Perak Road Market which has been ordered to close with immediate effect after several positive cases were reported.

Batu Lanchang assemblyman Ong Ah Teong said the Perak Road Market would be off limits to the public from yesterday until further notice.“The 87 traders at the temporary hawker sites outside the market can, however, continue with their operations.“My service centre team will roll out a subsidised Covid-19 test programme for them. They have to pay only RM80 for the RTK Antigen Covid-19 test at the Lam Wah Ee Hospital instead of the full amount of RM120.

Meanwhile, Ong urged the public to always follow the standard operating procedures to contain the virus. “All SOP must be strictly followed. The market association committee members have sanitised the market thoroughly on Thursday afternoon, ” he said. Since March last year, several public markets including at Taman Free School, Batu Maung and Jelutong on the island and in Penaga, Bagan Ajam and Bukit Mertajam on the Penang mainland had been closed after Covid-19 cases were detected.
