Finance Minister Simon Birmingham says an in-principle free trade agreement with the United Kingdom is a win for farmers as it would provide Australian exporters with access to a “high-quality, high-value” market.

It is understood Prime Minister Scott Morrision will hold a joint press conference with British counterpart Boris Johnson on Tuesday morning following a three-hour “working dinner” on Monday evening to finalise the deal.

“It’s certainly part of a strategy to provide to provide the maximum number of choices to Australian farmers and businesses,” he told Sky News. “The UK currently has a cap in terms of Australian beef of only around 3,700 tonnes. “Now what we would hope is to see a significant growth in terms of the potential for our beef producers to be able to access what is high-quality, high-value market of 60 million humans.

Birmo Simon ...'high-value' sounds like that will result in even higher prices in Australia. Will be interesting to track local supermarket on this one.
