Many teachers are leaving schools for better pay and more autonomy in new careers. “My happiness was worth more.”

When a graphic-design job opened at a nearby book distribution company, Ms. Ashworth realized she knew the hiring manager and reached out, landing it last summer. Now, she designs ads and digital guides and works on the company’s website. She gets to work from home three days a week. She has more time with her 4-year-old daughter and got a small raise in the new job, though she says she would have taken a pay cut to do it.

Raven Wilson, 30, says she had three goals as she considered quitting her job in education: earn more money, work in tech, work with adults.

You should make a research on swedish teachers! 😱

This article is nearly a month old.

GOP achieving its goal of privatizing education?

I'm going to close the farm and not produce food , Let the financial commissioner starve to death !

Nobody knows more about happiness than descendants of Northern American slavers.

probably non-union jobs too.

Thank you for this story and sharing a few of the stressors teachers go through daily. resilientTeacher

That's one way to weaken the Union.

As a 69 year old twice retired master teacher, USAF Vet, Atomic Energy Comm. employee, I’ve had offers paying far better than my greatest ever teaching salary. Teachers are highly intelligent, devoted and talented lifelong learners who America treats poorly!

Teachers are not paid enough. The schools are often under staffed. Three adults for 20 kids is overwhelming. As a parent, one can cause a lot of stress. Imagine an entire classroom and THEN they have to deal with parents. Some teachers are young & not ready tbh

Would be a real shame if the public education sector collapsed. Real shame

Our School District changed its substitute Teacher requirements to must posses a GED or just a warm body.

My feelings this year

Don't worry, the bat-sh*t crazy wokies you don't want near your children will stay right where they are. We don't want them near us either.

I know this may sound wild but I think they did this on purpose to start doing away with teaching in a facility as they have gotten education set up to do online through this pandemic and found how much tax dollars could be saved on tons of overhead if they have online teaching

The main problem is the behavioral problems.

Teachers are now doing farming and private businesses in my country because of low pay in schools.

Who will teach our kids

Are you saying that companies are Hot For Teacher?!?

Great! A talent suck out of education. America

Pay for home schoolers should be next. States can certify and pay qualified care givers to home school. Will help protect vulnerable children, and fill the void as teachers leave.

i brought my pencil i don’t feel tardy

I've taught for 3 decades, and I've always said, 'If I win the lottery tomorrow, I would keep teaching. I love teaching.' I still love teaching, but the job is too hard now. If I won the lottery, I would stop teaching and open up a tutoring business.

can’t blame them

Raising and educating children requires decent pay

The exodus of educators here in Virginia has become a torrent. The last straw for teachers was our new Republican Governor's idea to set up a snitch hotline, were patriotic informants can report those teachers deemed disloyal to the state. Teachers have had enough abuse.

Who could blame with the republican anti education policy
