Brigham and Womens Hospital observed National Recovery Month in September with a two-week-long arrangement of 2,104 purple flags at Thea and James M. Stoneman Centennial Park, pictured in Boston on Sept. 14, 2021. The display is being arranged by SOAR Natick, a non-profit organization that creates outreach activities to educate the community about opioid addiction and to bring awareness to the opioid epidemic.
The flags represent the number of confirmed and estimated opioid deaths in 2020.last year, while more than 40% of U.S. counties lack a single opioid use disorder practitioner. Bicycle Health, which delivers OUD treatment via telemedicine, attempts to fill that void virtually. It offers medication management, support groups, at-home drug testing, and more for $199 per month.
