As someone who worked for years in bars and restaurants it's about time they started paying staff properly and, most importantly, treating them better. Pub and hotel owners are by and large greedy sods.

It’s more a accommodation/housing issue than anything else. Students head home to the parents house now when term finishes they can’t afford to stay on in cities or live in tourist areas.
I guess they will be giving these jobs to the Ukrainians too?

No fuk off hospitality Ireland. The root of our problems is expensive housing/rent/hotel prices. And the Irish hospitality owners making massive profits and doing little work, just driving around leafy South County Dublin in their expensive cars. My money is being spent abroad
There was a time when young people and students did the lowly-paid part-time jobs. They wouldn't be demanding 'fair wages' because: a. it was a part-time job & they were lucky to have it, and b. they weren't going to be making a career out if it. Can we not get back to that?

I wouldn't holiday in Ireland ever again, overpriced and overrated hotels with underpaid staff, staff who do their best on ridiculously low wages, while the owners laugh at everyone who pays for it.
And maybe a complete ban on Airbnb, in order to free up rental accommodation for those seeking long term rental . In the town I live in, people can't work here because they can't get any accommodation and the hospitality establishments can't get staff then because of it!
I was in Rome recently for over a week staying in several hotels. *Every* hotel, restaurant and bar had Italian staff, with the exception of one room service person in one hotel.
