Housing inventory throughout the state has been at historic lows, and it part of what is driving the current sellers market.

New listings were down in 12 of New Jersey's 21 counties in February, the last month for which data is available, according to New Jersey Realtors. The frenzied residential real estate market of the past two years has been fueled heavily by the fact that there just aren’t enough houses available to buy.

The number of unsold homes listed for sale in New Jersey went from nearly 30,000 in January 2020 to about 14,000 in March 22, according to data from the Otteau Group. Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
