Police Minister Bheki Cele, says government is in the process of procuring 166 drones for its Rural Safety Strategy.

The police are planning to add drones to their arsenal in an attempt to improve rural policing.

Cele said this while responding to a written parliamentary question by the Freedom Front Plus on whether the South African Police Service has purchased any drones to be used specifically for rural security. The proposed model for the deployment of the drones will include various areas at Provincial Operational Command Centres and District Operational Command Centres.

The SAPS has already piloted drone units for policing services in Johannesburg, and this is the first time there will be a widespread use of drones as part of the national policing strategy

'Oh, look - skeet shooting with prizes!' 😂

Drones can be useful high tech toys, but on this case, I doubt if the ruralitarians will see the benefits more than the BEE companies sourcing them and leasing them to department of safety and security. 🤷🏿‍♂️

To do what.

What nonsense!! Another wasteful spend of money! The drones wont last longer until they crash/break/stolen. A joke!

ANC finding more and more creative ways to loot!!

mare0107 Sorry for my pessimism. With ANC track record, watch this disaster movie unfold.

to do what exactly? No vehicles, incompetent officers and a few lost and stolen drones. They can't corner a blind 3 legged pig in a shithouse, now they think toys will help them catch criminals.

Here we go again with Jokes...

They'll be shot down and sold for scrap!!

Drones? Rural safety? Really? Ayibo, why are y'all sleeping on the NWO deploying in KZN. Let me tool though...

helenzille alanwinde Wat gaan jul kommentaar wees hieroor. Seker soos altyd . Niks nie. Houtkruis70x71 Boer_Vir_EWIG philcraig2 TheForeverCape LetsFreeTheCape

Some people will end up using them to stalk others and for peeping purposes. US peeping toms love drones. 🙄🙄

Can just imagine who got the tender😏

Drone pilots from Cuba are already on their way probably.

And I know some Ministers, I am also ready for this tender !!

Too ambitious for a country that still uses mattress as a bank.

Wonder how long before they get shot down over the Cape Flats and other gang related areas?

Light aircraft with surveillance optics. And these already exist.

Wow. Tenders here we come. Drones have limited flying time unless you go for some seriously expensive ones. Not DJI.

What cadres are going to get this contract? 🧐

I’m ready to start a security company to guide police stations.

What will they cost...is it a tender?

Honestly, this is a good idea very good.rather than police driving around the drones can do the moving. Use this with rapid response, we might be on to something

South Africa - always blowing state funds on absolute nonsense, like children at Toys R Us. When will this country get serious and take care of priorities? Manholes are being stolen in CBD and these guys are masturbating with high tech toys. Corrupt nonsense.

Hey Cele .. why don't you just fix firearm licencing and we will ensure rural security and you can spend gov m9ney on potholes !!!?

Cele's sample drone test flight.....Yes chief,go ahead & place the order nudge nudge wink wink. Just make sure there's enough meat on the bone....price wise....if you know what I mean...

He's going to have 15% cut of that procurement. Time for comrades to eat 🥩

Procurement gonna be with united state defense force intellegence task team. Simple

Why? Why don't you invest in training nee constables, uncorrupted ones and build more charge offices? Waist money! Will these drones protect people and arrest thugs? I don't think so

Are the drone pilots being trained in Cuba?

Well they would be commercial drones and that would require a commercial pilot and registered operating Company which costs about R120k per drone and about R80k a month to operate!!!? Ie set up R23million and about R160million a year to run? (Before anc 'laundering')...

I shoot drones. Be warned.

Maybe it is time that the ridiculous drone legislations that is crippling drone technology in South Africa be revised so that the industry can develop. Not just the restrictions on use, but the crippling costs of licensing and training is creating an exclusive clicque.

Oh hell, now we going to have drones fall out of the sky as is required a skill to fly. Our cops can't even run.

Just another scheme to loot.Police hardly ever respond to our calls,so who is going to respond to drones in rural areas.

This one’s for you, Cele…

Another tender for anc to steal millions. Government keeps saying there no money so where does the money come from for these drones

SA talent pool is like a jojo tank…an ornament to those who are clueless, and a fountain to those who know how to maximise its use. Under the anc, SA is doomed

It might be a good idea if I will not be seen as a way to steal and what about the borders

KFC Drones more like

Just another disaster waiting to happen 😂😂😂😂

Deploy them at the boarders

Must be another tenderpreneurship

🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

They must first learn how to handle a gun before they can learn to operate a drone.

I wonder if these drones will be enough because Bakgatla only we have about 34 villages not counting Bakwena and Barokologadi not mentioning other rural villages.

Oh geez! Lots of money will change hands of middlemen then the project will crash!

Let me guess: Cuba will be contracted to do the training.

Hahahaha... one can't make this shit up!! ANC need money..

Not long ago we heard that they bought and couldn't use it what changed now

Money will be looted to fund ANC conference

O’Comled kumele badle.🙇🏾🙇🏾🙇🏾🙇🏾

1 million dollars per drone acquired from a shelf company set up laat week.

Welele season 43 of corruption about to start.

SAPS stations are getting robbed by criminals are drones going to protect us ?

Surely they will require some skill to operate them? The ability to swing a baton is not likely enough.

Who is going to fly them since police can't even drive cars properly and who got the tender to supply the drones..?

We need this to patrol on our railway

Haven’t seen the tender or is this a hush hush purchase.

What about the cities where hi jacks are happening

Food and fuel prices are skey high and he wants to put drones over our heads. Stop wasting our money, people WTF is wrong with the leadership of this country. Minister Cele it's time to pack up and go.

Drones why not helicopter the drone can't catch the criminals

Won't last 3 months

Money down the drain. How do u secure rural areas with drones when u fail to secure ur own police stations....? Cele must stop joking & be serious about policing.

The procurement deal will go to one of their family members, tjoo sivelelwe yaz💔

Ok, and who’s going to fly them?

At what cost? R1 000 000.00 each? Bought from a fellow cadre or family member.

You would not know how to operate it.....

Who's going to operate them lmfao
