Toronto has had to cancel and reschedule Canada Day fireworks after a company it hired to perform the displays backed out at the last minute, leading to an overnight scramble by city staff to salvage the celebrations.

Fireworks have been cancelled at Milliken Park, and are rescheduled at Stan Wadlow Park for Saturday, July 2.

The Star reached out to the company and its owner David Whysall for comment, but did not hear back by the time of publication. “We do our very best to pay our invoices within 30 days,” explained Ross. “As soon as that was brought to our attention we made that payment. morning we wired that money to him directly, the $31,000. But that’s still not reasonable to arbitrarily then cancel services. In fact, we have a contract and the vendor does not have a right to arbitrarily cancel that contract, to terminate the contract, certainly not with 24-hours notice.
