A coding roadshow that celebrates how 1980s Britain embraced the home computer is coming to Accrington.
An exciting addition to the Soapbox Challenge event on Saturday, August 27 is The CODE Show where 25 gaming devices will be available and free to use within the Market Hall. Exhibits to expect include a Sinclair C5, and ‘1980s technology’ such as a dial up telephone and video recorder! There will be big screens and interactive computers for all ages to enjoy. Murray Dawson, chair of event organisers Amazing Accrington, said: “This is the first time all the 25 gaming devices at The Code Show will be available to the public, and there are experts on hand to show visitors everything, from augmented reality to Pac-Man.
“I encourage people to come in and see us and everything we have to offer - you can see if your kids know how to work a dial telephone, and get them into coding while they’re there! You can also browse our pop up stalls, and existing market, shops and cafes.” Thousands of people are expected to descend on the town for the Soapbox Challenge, from 10am to 4pm. The road will be closed for the event from Property Shop on Blackburn Road down into Town Square in Accrington town centre, creating a soapbox track featuring pit lanes and raised areas to ensure a good view of the soapbox vehicles.
