They're paving over a parking lot to put up paradise.

A multimillion-dollar spa inspired by the heyday of Sutro Baths and planned for Lower Nob Hill is building a preview of some of what's to come in an indoor-outdoor pop-up dubbed"Alchemy Garden," recent planning applications show.

The pop-up calls for three large freestanding saunas, a plunge pool and showers in a 2,455-square-foot rear yard where the basement level opens onto, labeled in planning documents as the"Zen Garden." Cannady discussed plans last year for Alchemy Springs to redevelop a similarly sized rear parking lot to include a greenhouse, garden, and outdoor dining terrace.

While the spa use is principally permitted at the property, planning documents indicate a conditional use application — which can sometimes bloat the timeline for construction — is required for the outdoor space in back.
