With millions of dollar stockpiled for the race, JaxChamber CEO Daniel Davis officially filed to run for Jacksonville mayor on Thursday.
After filing Thursday, Davis will be holding a kickoff event next week, during which a chamber spokesperson said he will address his plans for how he will handle his role with the organization during the campaign., some JaxChamber board members have reservations about Davis serving as the face of the chamber while running.
Davis has been chamber president since 2013, taking on that role after serving as executive director of the Northeast Florida Builders Association. He was previously a Jacksonville City Council member and state representative.Davis joins a field that includes Republicans LeAnna Cumber and Al Ferraro, Democrats Donna Deegan and state Sen. Audrey Gibson, and no-party-affiliation Omega Allen, as well as a handful of lesser-known candidates.
According to a mid-August poll by the Public Opinion Research Lab at the University of North Florida, Davis had the support of 11% of respondents, trailing Deegan, who had 31%, and beating Gibson's 10%. Twenty percent of respondents said they don’t know who they'd be voting for for mayor or refused to answer.Related Content
