Kopaskie-Brown will come to Mesa by way of Riverdale, California. There, she held the title of acting deputy director and city planner and oversaw long-term planning and applicant projects.
Before then, she worked as chief of advanced planning operations in San Diego County, where she worked for over two years. Her time in planning went all the way to the Middle East, where she spent 12 years in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, according to her LinkedIn page. “I am excited to be joining the city of Mesa and looking forward to working with City Council, the city’s staff and leadership, the development community, stakeholders and residents,” Kopaskie-Brown said in a statement.
The city of Mesa said the process to find a new planning director took about nine months. Kopaskie-Brown , who was announced last December as Mesa's new director of development services. “Mary provides expertise in strategic planning, organization and stakeholder coordination and brings a tremendous amount of experience in many different aspects of planning and development,” Appiah said in a statement. “She will be an outstanding addition to the city of Mesa.”
Southeast Mesa is one of the hottest industrial markets in the country, with investors spending hundreds of millions of dollars buying land to start new projects in the area. Several large companies including Amazon and Lowes have recently announced plans for large distribution facilities —
