A multifamily development near St. Johns River State College that the county planning board had already recommended denying once has failed to gain momentum with another go-around.
Board members, who voted to recommend denial 5-1 in June, voted 3-1 against an amended development plan in the recent vote. The developer can still take the item to the County Commission, which strongly considers PZA recommendations but is not bound by them. It is necessary to gain approval from the county because the developer is asking to rezone the property from Commercial General to Planned Unit Development."There just isn’t anything out there right now that approaches the density and the height and the intensity of this development," said Ron Brown, an attorney speaking behalf of the SJRSC about the area near the college.
