The New York attorney general’s lawsuit against former President Donald Trump uses a common state business law to make allegations about property valuations, which lawyers say are rarely the focus of civil-fraud cases

uses a common state business law to make allegations about property valuations, which lawyers say are rarely the focus of civil-fraud cases.

Ms. James’s complaint is anchored by a longstanding New York law that gives the attorney general broad powers to combat “persistent fraud or illegality in the carrying on, conducting or transaction of business.” The lawsuit is seeking significant penalties that could curtail the company’s operations in New York.

“There is a lot of wiggle room in certain of these valuations,” said Sarah Krissoff, a former federal prosecutor now at Day Pitney LLP. “What the attorney general did well here is provide such stark examples and show this pattern over time.” Donald Trump said he invoked his Fifth Amendment rights and declined to answer questions from the New York attorney general at a scheduled deposition in August. Demands for bans have become more frequent in recent years, said Brian Mahanna, a former senior official at the New York attorney general’s office who is now a partner at law firm WilmerHale.

She has nothing but she has to keep her campaign promise. She should focus on taking real criminals off the streets.

She chose such a weak premise for her case. To use property value estimates as the foundation for a charge against the entire family is a stretch.

When you get to a few hundred million in fraud, kind of gets attention.

So we all agree.. this racist AG has got nothing and everyone knows it. It's a smear campaign once again. This must be the 6th one by now..

This thing got a law degree? Uz a shifty 👩🏿‍🦱…

Can she TishJames also investigate whether or not the charities celebrities were playing for on Celebrity Apprentice actually received that prize money from Trump &/or nbc? MSNBC NicolleDWallace

Isn’t it a matter of the scale and degree of Trump’s civil fraud? Aren’t the charges about the fiscal consequences to the State of New York incurred by Trump Corporation misrepresenting property valuations on a massive scale?

A mockery of the justice system

Would the be Rupert Murdoch, of Fox News, Wall St journal?

Ignore enforcement of the law , as has been done for many years, and they become 'rarely the focus of civil fraud cases' and therefore become acceptable means of cheating.

We've been WSJ readers / subscribers for 30 years. We can't recall the Op-Ed pages ever arguing for a businessman to be held criminally, civilly, administratively or morally responsible for any action.

Maybe they should be.

In other words, 'New York has let people cheat before so it should let Trump get away with it now.'

The WSJ is a joke with this bullshit. He took the 5th 440 times. If you knew anything about the Rule of Law, that would mean something. How about this: pretend the fact we’re the same, but it was the Clintons…

Please one more against his friend Vladimir Putin, the war criminal

I know we all probably might have heard about Bitcoin but don't know how it works, I tried it in a week ago by a man who recommended me to Derrick_wright3 on Twitter he guides me through and i made a return of $10500 after a week of trading, connect with him

Of course the Wall Street Journal would defend lying to lenders as long as it got you more money at lower interest rates. What the helix wrong with you people?

Stop trying to soften the fact Trump’s business, Donald Trump , Ivanka, Donald Jr. and Eric committed wild scale fraud over many years

Letitia wants Donald and his family locked up - asap!

Civil suit is going nowhere

It called Lawfare. They fear him so much, they will try anything to keep him from running

It's really about damn time.

Further proof it is just another witch-hunt.

Whatever it takes, the hunt runs on the simplest of things. You could say everybody fibs to increase property value, it's still against the law. & now the witch is whine bagging/begging to be allowed to continue screwing US

Why don’t you investigate her clear abuse of power - sham after sham after sham
