One S.F. pier got its first 'ahoy' of the year from cruise tourists on Wednesday — and there's more on the way.

Pier 30-32 typically supports government or research vessels, playing second fiddle to the main Cruise Ship Terminal at Pier 27 and its backup, Pier 35.

"It's a good opportunity for ships to cruise along the waterfront and pass under both bridges," said Andre Coleman, SF Port's maritime director."It gives people a chance to enjoy South Beach restaurants, too." Wednesday's arrival descended on a livelier-than-usual San Francisco with Dreamforce in town and its benefit concert at nearby Oracle Park — headlined by the Red Hot Chili Peppers — happening that evening. The pandemic kept the Cruise Ship Terminal north of the Ferry Building bereft of cruise visitors until public health restrictions lifted last fall and allowed in 22 calls by year-end.
