This unique food market/wine store/cooking school with two on-site restaurants and a cafe makes a big debut as part of Westfield Valley Fair’s expansion.
It took more than a decade of planning to build the ninth Eataly location in North America and the result is ain Westfield Valley Fair. The Silicon Valley food emporium features two sit-down restaurants, fresh pasta and mozzarella stations, a grocery store and an entire floor dedicated to wine. Viola Buitoni, an Italian-born chef and renowned cookbook author who worked with the Italian consul to bring Eataly to Northern California, says the massive Italian marketplace gets everything right. “I’m a very big fan of Eataly – it has provided a fantastic window for Italian food that is high-end, made mindfully and made by smaller families and businesses in the Bay Area and in Italy,” he said.
The company was originally eyeing San Francisco but chose Silicon Valley when the owners say they found the perfect space. “We are delighted to have introduced our concept to Silicon Valley, where many of our customers already know us from visiting other Eataly locations around the world,” said Adele Parodi, vice president of store development at Eataly North America.
Buitoni says having Eataly here is proof the area is home to a well-traveled, knowledgeable population. “To the Italian community, it’s easy for us to go to one place and find what we need. The beautiful thing about Eataly is that it doesn’t package it to please the crowd. It packages it as things are today in Italy. This is not the usual red sauce joint!”
