Belfast City Council said their officers are working with Destination CQ to help identify vacant buildings which could be used as temporary spaces for businesses.A businessman said he is losing £10,000 each day his shop has not been allowed to open due to a fire at a building in the Cathedral Quarter on Monday.
A spokesperson told BBC News NI there has been no damage to the office or any of its contents, but telephone lines have been out of operation since the fire.Donagh McGovern, who owns a shop beside the building, said there was nothing wrong with his shop but it is inside of a cordon and has not been allowed to reopen.
A spokesperson said: "Our building control team has attended the site of the fire to assess the building under the dangerous structures legislation.
I think he meant he's lost 10 thousand hairs a day since the fire
10 grand my plums , ffs Lunns wouldn't lift that
Let's hope Donagh gets as much help as possible here. Its businesses like this that are the lifeblood of local areas across Belfast. Paying high rates, offering employment etc.
I'm sure those concrete filled shipping contains are still kicking about. It would be wise to line the front of the cathedral buildings with some of them, open the road again and let other traders reopen.
Is he not insured?
ClodaghLRice He has plenty of other stores in the area ! Focus on them & just get on with it ! Safety comes first & by all accounts he can afford it anyway.
A lot of people are talking about the 10 grand figure as if it's profit. I'm sure he probably does make a decent profit, but stock costs, wages, rates, utilities will come out of that.
He knows who to blame, the scumbag who was in court yesterday who will probably get a slap on the wrist for it.
Sympathy thin on the ground for this one with businesses closing left right and centre, probably not the best Idea to publicise your vast profits while others have lost everything and have nothing, some people have zero self awareness.
£10k? Dude must be doing a cracking trade in Lurpak.
That’s a bit of an exaggeration mate
Surely decent business insurance would cover this?
Probably about 10 kit Kats a day unless he's selling BMWs out the back..🤓
Wonder how much the staff are paid
Lifting 10k a day I'm sure he'll survive a few days until he gets the go ahead to open
£10,000 a day? I know them wee Centra shops are expensive but holy f*ck!!
