abc.net.au/news/uk-treasury-chief-kwarteng-out-prime-minister-truss-u-turn/101539410Britain's Treasury minister, Kwasi Kwarteng, says he has resigned after Prime Minister Liz Truss asked him to stand aside.Ms Truss is due to hold a press conference soon"You have asked me to stand aside as your chancellor. I have accepted," Mr Kwarteng said in his resignation letter to Ms Truss, which he published on Twitter.

It came shortly before Ms Truss was expected to scrap parts of his economic package in a bid to survive the market and political turmoil gripping the country. Downing Street confirmed that Ms Truss, in power for only 37 days, would hold a press conference later on Friday after Mr Kwarteng was forced to rush back to London from IMF meetings in Washington to address the chaos.Mr Kwarteng has become Britain's shortest-serving chancellor since 1970, and his successor would be the country's fourth finance minister in as many months.

Mr Kwarteng had announced a new fiscal policy on September 23, delivering Ms Truss's vision for vast tax cuts and deregulation to try to shock the economy out of years of stagnant growth.Ms Truss has been under intense pressure to scrap some of the 43 billion pounds in unfunded tax cuts that roiled financial markets and led the Bank of England to step in to prevent a wider economic crisis.

Mr Kwarteng's resignation came as Conservative politicians agonised over whether to try to oust their second leader this year. Some reports suggest senior Conservatives are plotting to replace Mr Truss with a joint ticket of Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt, her two closest rivals in the summer contest for the party leadership, though it's unclear how that could be achieved.Watch

I am not surprised! Liz is known for her pirouettes !!

Another nail

Poor man. He got caught in a tornado. Truss is ruthless because she is incompetent.

Truss needs to be next. What a disaster this has been.

Wow I'm very surprised that he is out!!

“UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Kwasi Kwarteng sacrificed as Prime Minister Liz Truss moves to survive her own folly.”

To be fair, it's an awful job for anyone to take on - the western world's economies have taken one helluva bashing since covid. Mind you, that's probably why she has given the position to Jeremy Hunt as he is a despicable grub. Lesson: that'll teach the wets for ousting Boris!

Poor Kwasi, you should have known that you're expendable the moment they offered you the role.

Expendable - so she keeps her job. But for how long?
