Casa Grande cemented its entry into the semiconductor industry with Chang Chun Group starting construction Thursday on its $300 million plant, which is expected to employ more than 200 workers when it opens next year.
"We are a well-kept secret, or at least we used to be," Casa Grande Mayor Craig McFarland said during Thursday morning's groundbreaking ceremony. He was joined by Chang Chun Arizona project manager Alex Chang, Su, Arizona Commerce Authority President and CEO Sandra Watson and others. Casa Grande Economic Development Director Richard Wilkie said the city continues to work with Kanto on the project and hopes that they will celebrating a groundbreaking soon on that project.
Chang said 80% of the Casa Grande workforce will be hired locally, and most of the plant's employees won't require specialized degrees or training.
