Major change at critical St. Augustine intersection moves forward

While the project is still in the conceptual phase, a development that will completely alter the look — and perhaps the transit through it — of one of St. Augustine's major entrance corridors now has the support of the city government.

, but Barry Broudy said he's been having informal discussions about the idea with City Manager John Regan for at least a decade. The zoning allows for building high-density and high buildings to accommodate multifamily development. There are also some requirements related to mobility. This particular area is expected to have a public parking facility of perhaps 700 spaces.

However, attorney Ellen Avery-Smith, representing Broudy, said the cost of building the units as well as adding a parking facility rules out any kind of discounted housing. All units would be at market rate.
