Listed company Tlou Energy allegedly misled investors about the carbon neutrality of its processes and its commitment to renewable power.

involves companies claiming products or business practices are more environmentally friendly than they are.and sustainability of their services.ASIC said Tlou had also not “undertaken any meaningful investigation” whether its offset method of choice – carbon sequestration – was actually a feasible option for neutralising the power plant’s emissions.

Tlou’s statements to the ASX that its gas-to-power project would be “low emissions” and that it was equally concerned with producing renewable energy as it was with developing this scheme were also allegedly false. It had not assessed how much greenhouse gas would be generated through this project to work out what offsets it needed, meaning it had “no reasonable basis” to claim it would be “low emissions”.
