Viteri, who worked for ASRS from 1996-2008, before leaving to take a job with the Oregon State Treasury, returned to Arizona from Oregon last year to oversee the state employees' $50 billion investment fund and a staff of 10. Anthony Dekker, chief medical officer of the Department of Economic Security, and Katharine Woods, the Department of Health Services' chief medical officer, were fifth and sixth on the list, respectively.
