Brandi Chastain and other soccer stars want to bring professional soccer to the Bay Area. Now a second team also plans to bid.

Alan Dones, the Oakland developer behind a bid to remake the Coliseum site and land a WNBA team, is also leading a group aiming to bring a women's professional soccer team to the city.

Dones' African American Sports & Entertainment Group is joining forces with The Town FC to bid on a National Women's Soccer League franchise. The bid is expected to come in a future round of expansion for the league, either in 2024 or 2025.The Town FC is a semi-professional soccer club that expects to start playing next season.
