Mike Smith is making Fifth Third Bank a home for Black entrepreneurs

is a newcomer to Tampa Bay after relocating from his hometown Cincinnati late last year, but he is quickly putting down roots in his new city.

Smith is also not afraid to stand out and bring personality to his craft. He says his relatability is essential for bringing Black entrepreneurs in the door and making them feel at home at the bank, and, ultimately, connecting them with resources to grow their businesses. You’re passionate about helping Black entrepreneurs and small businesses. How is that banking relationship different?

So now, when they need a loan, instead of going to some random bank, they can call on us, and that’s exactly what it’s turned into. If they need something, they know who to call. We take time to explain why they were turned down if that’s the case and make a plan for what needs to happen before the next time they come back to us.
