The Jacksonville area was named one of the best areas in the country for retired veterans in a new ranking released by Navy Federal Credit Union.
Jacksonville came in No. 3 on the list, based in part on the large number of veterans here: Former service members make up 11% of the area's adult population, the credit union said, creating a robust community for retirees. The list was created by considering veterans’ average income, unemployment rates and proximity to VA hospitals and military bases. The company also paired these factors with a suite of quality-of-life measures. The rankings were then divided into subcategories: best places for retired veterans, best places for veterans to buy a house, and best places for military families. Related Content
