Exelixis, which announced it would move its headquarters to Alameda in 2017, now leases more than a half-million square feet there.

Exelixis is again growing its footprint in Alameda.

The publicly-traded drug discovery company has leased 100,000 square feet at 1410 Harbor Bay Parkway, according to a source familiar with the transaction; it intends to use the site as additional laboratory space. The 1410 Harbor Bay lease is the latest Exelixis has signed in Alameda since moving its headquarters from South San Francisco to the city in 2018. It already occupies more than 250,000 square feet of space at its headquarters at 1851 Harbor Bay Parkway, according to documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The new lease at 1410 Harbor Bay, which sits just a few blocks from Exelixis’s existing buildings in Alameda, will bring the company’s total leased space there close to 575,000 square feet. that the company, which develops cancer therapies, is investing heavily in early research and development and expects to employ around 1,200 people by the end of this year, the majority of them in Alameda.

Exelixis reported having 954 full-time equivalent employees at the end of last year. The company reported $411.7 million in revenue at the end of quarter three this year, according to SEC documents, up from $328.4 million over the same period in 2021.
