With the XFL set to kickoff in February (and draft teams on Wednesday), the VP of business and event operations for the Arlington Renegades team spoke with the Dallas Business Journal about why he's excited.

In addition to the Renegades, the XFL will feature seven other teams. The XFL draft will be held on Wednesday and Thursday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

The league's football operations held a virtual lottery and randomly determined the D.C. Defenders will get first selection in the draft followed by the St. Louis Battlehawks, San Antonio Bahamas, Orlando Guardians, Vegas Vipers, Seattle Sea Dragons, Arlington Renegades and Houston Roughnecks. We asked Johnson more questions about the XFL in the Q&A below.

I think some of the exciting things that I'm looking forward to are seeing the tenants continuing to increase the viewership in terms of people watching the game — not just here locally, but on a national level. But look, this is still a startup league. The XFL really does look at itself as a co-creation type of league where we're getting insights and ideas from our fan base and community.
