The drive toward clean energy and net zero is steady and robust — enabled by the passage of Build Back Better and the Inflation Reduction Act. Those laws create the funding to build more renewable energy projects and electric vehicle charging stations. In fact, the United States has not seen this level of infrastructure investment since the end of World War II.

The Princeton Zero Lab estimates that the Inflation Reduction Act will lead to a 42% decrease in CO2 emissions by 2030 from a 2005 baseline. Before the law’s enactment, it said such cuts would amount to 27%. But getting there means the electrification of the American economy — the use of fewer fossil fuels.
