ESKOM LIVE | Stage 3 continues as Eskom tries to save diesel

Stage 3 load shedding will be implemented on Tuesday afternoon at 16:00 to 05:00 on Wednesday, and on Wednesday afternoon at the same time.Eskom says it is being forced to"strictly conserve" fuel reserves for its diesel-fired gas turbines given budget restrictions. The turbines are usually used for emergency power generation to avoid load shedding.

"A generating unit each at Grootvlei and Matimba power stations were taken offline for repairs over the past 24 hours. The delay in returning to service a generating unit each at Arnot and Duvha power stations has contributed to the capacity constraints." "This is to conserve the limited diesel stocks and to create space to replenish the dam levels in the pumped storage schemes."02 December 15:06Eskom will implement continuous stage 2 load shedding until further notice due to the breakdown of six generating units at five power stations, the power utility said on Friday afternoon.

Stage 1 will resume at 05:00 on Monday morning until 16:00, when Stage 2 will be implemented throughout Monday night. The lifeline from PetroSA was supplied after Eskom recently ran out of funds to pay for diesel, which it uses to supplement generation capacity.Since Wednesday afternoon, a generating unit each at Grootvlei, Kendal and Tutuka power stations were taken offline for repairs, Eskom said. Another four units were taken offline at Camden power station to repair a water leak on a line that supplies auxiliary cooling water.

The Department of Public Enterprises, which oversees state-owned Eskom, said earlier that it’s urgently working with National Treasury and the utility to find money for diesel. Stage 4 load shedding will be implemented continuously until 05:00 on Tuesday morning, Eskom said on Monday afternoon.Stage 4 will be implemented daily at 16:00 - 05:00 until further notice, the utility said.

Three units at Kusile Power Station are offline due to the duct failure late in October and will remain offline for a few months while repairs to the chimney system take place, it added. Meanwhile Unit 1 of Koeberg Nuclear Power Station will continue to generate at a reduced output over the next three weeks.Stage 4 load shedding was suspended at 08:00 on Sunday, power utility Eskom announced.

Since Friday morning a generating unit each at Kendal and Kriel power stations were taken offline for repairs. There have also been delays in returning to service a unit each at Arnot, Grootvlei, Hendrina and Tutuka power stations . He said those municipalities that owed Eskom needed to consider their role in causing more load shedding.

"We will do whatever is necessary to turn this around and supply electricity to the country. We have accepted this challenge."As the briefing ends - spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says Stage 3 load shedding will return on Wednesday evening. Oberholzer - we had a submission for a full-time head of generation to the previous board in Sept. They requested permission, and it was not entertained for submission to the Sept board meeting.
