SF Travel's longtime leader has overseen unprecedented tourist and conference growth, and in recent years, a dramatic transformation to S.F.'s fortunes.

The leader of San Francisco's powerful tourism bureau announced on Tuesday he plans to step down at the end of 2023.

"We still have quite a journey ahead of us," D'Alessandro said in a press statement on Tuesday afternoon, noting how the pandemic ended a streak of ten consecutive record-breaking years for San Francisco tourist visitors."But we are on the path to recovery." SF Travel said in the press release the search for D'Alessandro's successor will begin next year, led by SF Travel's Board Chair Ike Kwon and Chair-elect Terry Lewis — general manager of the Hilton San Francisco Union Square and Parc 55 hotels. Kwon and Lewis will assemble and lead a search committee that will"engage in deliberative, thorough process" to find the next president and CEO.

At the meeting SF Travel previewed a new global marketing campaign aimed for the first quarter of 2023 which will involve a redesigned mobile-first website and feature for the first time include television ads and out-of-home advertising in addition to digital channels.
